BattleKin - Environmental VFX

I've worked most of my time at Coatsink on BattleKin for Meta, where I've directed the style for the VFX on the project, working on this project has been the best thing to start my career as a VFX Artist with a team I will dearly miss. ❤️

I've put all my favourite environmental effects in this upload, from simple fireflies to a very technical aurora with no shaders.

VFX to compliment the kin charging for a buff, station made by Hazel James & kin made by Bran Cottle.

Space environment we made as a team where this beam upwards is inspired by my aurora effect to 'guide' the players to the end of the level.

Very early exploration for water in VR, couldn't use shaders/uv scrolls, managed to get the water moving with hand-drawn flipbooks.

Little fire exploration that turned into a campfire, combined whispy textures with very hard-edged core textures.

A waterfall I made for the Jungle Environment, was a blast to find a solution for not being able to do UV scrolls inside Meta Horizon, the end result with the hand-drawn textures on moving ribbons is something im very proud off.

Lightning VFX to match the gem stones on this merging station, had a blast handrawing all these elements and carefully matching colors of the station made by Enrique Orrego.

simple, lovely & effective.

no shaders, complex ribbon with movement, no uv scrolls either, was a headache to create but a lovely outcome.

Last but not least, some very enjoyable falling leaves, also hand drawn, these are also used in all my grass attacks upcoming in my next uploads.
